The Ben Calf Robe Dancers and Drummers are Aboriginal students from Ben Calf Robe School who tour the Edmonton area delivering a highly entertaining cultural program of music and dance. The interactive performance is aimed at enriching the Alberta Education Social Studies and Music/Fine Arts curriculum. The audience is introduced to the significance of Aboriginal drumming and dance, as well as given the story behind the different dances. The audience is also invited to participate in a 'friendship' round dance, that closes each performance. The dancers and drummers have performed at a wide variety of functions including Center Stage for CBC, Global TV Morning Show, Canadian Finals Rodeo 'River City Round-up' Kick-off at the Agricom and Churchill Square, Canadian Finals Rodeo Opening Ceremonies, Boys and Girls Club of Edmonton, as well as many Edmonton area schools including Our Lady of Peace, Annunciation, Our Lady of Victories, St. Hilda, and St. Lucy. The performance is approximately one hour in length and a gift of an honorarium to cover travelling expenses, is suggested. If you are interested in having the dancers and drummers perform, please contact the school (471-2360). |
