3M Family St. Patrick's Day Writing

The following pieces of creative writing were written as a 'St Patrick's Day' 'reading response' assignment, completed by our class of students in the 2006-2007 school year.

The stories here... were their first serious attempt at preparing for the year-end Provincial Examinations in Story Writing.

A Wish

In Ireland, I saw a leprechaun. I also saw a rainbow, it led me to a pot of gold.

I tried to take the gold, but the leprechaun saw me.

Then I caught the leprechaun and wished I had a horse.

The leprechaun said, “Write me 1000 lines of your wish.”

I replied, “Okay.”

I wrote the 1000 lines and now I have a horse!







The Sneaky Leprechaun

Long ago lived a leprechaun.
He lived under a rainbow and he had a pot of gold.
People tried to find the leprechaun, and couldn't.
But one day, a guy named James went on a trip to find the leprechaun.
He travelled around the world.
Then he found the sneaky leprechaun!
He set his 'Catch-a-leprechaun Trap' and caught the leprechaun.

"Can I have some gold?'" he asked the leprechaun.
The leprechaun answered, "Why don't you make a wish?"
"O.k. I wish I had a pot of gold!"

All of a sudden, James saw his pot of gold - it was the box of 'Pot of Gold' chocolates!

The sneaky leprechaun disappeared.
Poor James was still... POOR James!







The Little Green Man

One day, I was walking down the sidewalk to the store.
I heard something coming from the bush.
I looked behind the bush and saw a little green man. He was making little shoes.

I ran home to tell my mom.

My mom and I went back to the bush, but the little green man was gone.







No Ordinary Man
Based On a True Story

One day, I went to the store.

Out of nowhere... I saw a green man!
He was in the bush and was not an ordinary man.

Then I went into the store to get the things we needed.

When we got home, I told my mom about the green man.







Food for Life

One day there was a girl named Shawna and she lived in Ireland. She was a lazy girl.

One night she went out to the garden. She heard clapping and hammering in the bushes.

There in the bushes she found a leprechaun!

When it saw her, he jumped up and began to run away! She chased it saying, "I want your gold!"

"Why don't you just ask for a wish?" said the leprechaun.

"O.k. I want a big potato, so I can have food forever."

So Shawna went home and planted the seed that the leprechaun had given her.

The next morning, there was a big potato root in the dirt. She could not get it out.

Her neighbour came over and could not believe his eyes! He told the whole village about it and all the village came and helped Shawna get her potato out, that had grown there.

When they did that, it went rolling away on the street and got stuck again.

Everybody started to blame Shawna.

Then Shawna said, "Everybody take a piece so it won't be stuck anymore!"

So everybody took a piece and then the potato was all gone.

Years past and everybody got sick of potatoes. They went to Shawna's house and complained. "We are sick of potato! You stay in bed and we will deliver you food".

So Shawna did not get her gold - but she did get to stay lazy!







The Leprechaun
Based on a true story

I went to my aunt’s house after school.

When I got there, we went to Crystal Kids to play hockey with David.

My team lost the game.

After that, I went back to my aunt’s house.

On the way there, I saw a leprechaun in the tree.

I ran to the house to call my dad, so that I could tell him about what I saw. But when I got on the phone, I forgot to tell him.

Spring makes me sing about Leprechauns.
I’ll go see if he’s green.
If he’s green, then a shamrock he’ll always be!

Over the rainbow is a pot of gold,
Where the Leprechaun will hide you!

Summer...
Summer is cool because there is no school.
I can go to the pool and act like a fool,
And that makes me cool.
I’ll jump in the pool to be more cool.







The Leprechaun Story
(Based on a TRUE story)

One day, a lazy man’s wife asked him to go and make supper for her.

Then he got up from his bed and went outside.

There, he saw a Leprechaun.

The man sneaked up and grabbed the Leprechaun, but the Leprechaun said, “Let me go!”

Just then, the man remembered that he needed to make supper for his wife. So he let the Leprechaun go.







Shania The Shoe-Maker

One day, a Leprechaun with magical shoes came out of his hiding place.

I asked him, “Where is the pot of gold?”

He said, “I’m not going to tell you!”

“Tell me now!” I said.

“Why?” asked the Leprechaun.

“Because Leprechauns always know where the pot of gold is and I want that gold,” I replied. “How about I give you a deal? If you make me some magical shoes, I won’t bother you anymore.”

The Leprechaun replied, “It’s easy, I use silver metal from the fairies. I will make some magical shoes for you. Just wait right here.”

With that, the Leprechaun went back into his hiding place and was never to be found again.







The Lucky Trade

A long time ago, there lived a small leprechaun in a forest. He was making shoes for fairies.

One day he lost his pot of gold, that he was saving. He looked for it for over an hour.

Then a boy came into the forest and found the pot of gold.

The little leprechaun saw this happen - but he didn't want the boy to see him - so he set a trap!

The leprechaun dresses up like a man, and went to the boy. "Is that a pot of gold?" he asked the boy.

"Yes, I found it in the forest when I went looking at the rainbow. It was at the bottom of the rainbow!"

Then the leprechaun said, "Can we make a trade for it?"

The boy said, "We can make a deal. What will you give me for it?"

The leprechaun answered, "I could give you a magic seed that will give you the world's biggest potato! That will make you famous and rich! Then you'll never have to work in your life!"

The boy did the trade. The little leprechaun wasn't really seen. The gold was safe and back under the rainbow... and "Lucky's Fairy Shoe" business moved to another bush!







Noisy Neighbours

Once upon a time there was a girl named Sun, who lived in Ireland. She was a good but lazy girl.

One night, she heard something that woke her up.
"BANG - BANG - BANG"

She went outside to check it out.

She saw a leprechaun! She tried to grab the leprechaun! She made the leprechaun talk.

She said, "Where is the gold?"

"It's behind the tree!" answered the leprechaun.

When she went and looked... there was the pot of gold!

The leprechaun disappeared but the gold didn't.

Now Sun lives in her own castle and doesn't hear the noisy leprechaun neghbours!
