3M Family's 'Fill-In' Stories



The following are stories our students created, using STORY FRAMES. The students had a choice of STORY FRAME to use, but the ideas that they ‘filled-in’ to them…make for very different stories! Enjoy!









The Talking Frog

Everyone knows that frogs do not talk. However, yesterday I was playing soccer in my backyard, I suddenly heard a loud noise. I looked up and saw a giant talking frog!

“Can I play with you?” the frog yelled.
“ Frogs can’t talk!” I answered.
“Well I can!” was its reply.
“Well o.k.” I answered.

The frog played soccer with me, but he lost.
Then we went inside to play video games.
Then I asked if I could keep him as a pet. My mom said, “Yes”, so I did.

I took him to ‘Show and Tell’ at school.

Everyone knows that frogs do not talk. However, yesterday I was alone in my backyard, I suddenly heard a little noise. I looked up and saw a talking magic frog!

“Hello!” the frog yelled.
“Hi! Hello!” I answered.
“I like to sing!” was its reply.

The frog had been cursed by a witch. It would be set free of the curse, if it could jump over the swamp, but it landed in the green swamp and appeared here! The frog did not remember anything.

The little boy took care of the frog, and they became best friends.

When they got old and died, their graves were put side-to-side, so they could be together forever.








My Birthday Surprise

On the evening of my 9th birthday, I heard the sound of a person, in the basement. It was hard to push the basement door because the door was heavy, so I pushed really hard.

All at once, it opened. The lights quickly turned on and all of my friends were there! “Happy Birthday!” they all shouted out loud. I was sooooo…surprised!

“So who wants cake?” mom asked.
“We do!” we all shouted.

After the cake, I opened my present. “A puppy! That’s just what I always wanted!”

That was the greatest surprise party ever!

“Can I play with you?” the frog yelled.
“Frogs can’t talk!”
“Well I can!” was its reply.
“Well o.k., you can play!” I replied.

The frog lost.

Then they went inside to play video games.

Then I asked my mom, “Can I keep him as a pet?”

My mom said “Yes”, so I did.

Everyone knows that frogs do not talk. However, yesterday I was playing in my backyard, I suddenly heard a small noise. I looked up and saw a large frog.

“HELP!!!!!” the frog yelled.

“STOP !!!” I answered. “Why are you running?” I asked.

“Please don’t eat me!” was its reply.

“I want to take you home with me and play with you everyday!” I continued.

“O.K. I will come to your house,” the frog agreed.

Then they became the best of friends!








My Birthday Surprise

On the evening of my best birthday, I heard the sound of a motorcycle in the back alley. It was hard to hear because of the loud noise, so I told the man on the motorcycle, to be quiet.

All at once, he stopped. I was scared. He had something behind his back. He came up to the door. He had his helmet on.

At first I did not recognize his helmet. Then I did! It was my Uncle Randy! He had brought me a remote control car.

After supper we had fun riding on his motorcycle.

Then we played with the remote control car.

At. 10:30 p.m. it was bedtime.

That was the best 10th birthday of my life!






My Birthday Surprise

On the evening of my nineth birthday, I heard the sound of singing in the dining room. It was hard to hear because of the radio, so I turned it off.

All at once, I could hear the song!

I went downstairs and I saw 9 floating candle lights in the dark. I turned on the lights.

“Happy Birthday!” my family shouted. I was SURPRISED!!!

Then they sang “Happy Birthday” to me. I made a wish and blew out the candles. Then we ate the chocolate cake.

After the cake I got to open my presents!

I had a lot of fun at my birthday. I played fun games like ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ and I got to hit the piñata!

It was really fun at my nineth surprise birthday party!!!






My Birthday Surprise

On the evening of my 9th birthday, I heard the sound of a person talking in the livingroom. It was hard to hear because of the music playing in the basement, so I went through the livingroom doors.

All at once I saw two of my friends talking!

“So you two were talking about my birthday?” I asked.

“NO…we were talking about what we were going to get you!” said one of my friends.

“Oh! So I guess you don’t call that talking about my birthday?” I repeated.

“Well we’re going to go and buy your present now!” they said together.

When they got back to my house, they began singing to me.

When we were eating cake, I opened my present. Those friends who I found in my livingroom, talking about my birthday, gave me a cat for a present!

That was the best birthday present ever!
