Grade 3 says...
"Happy 100th Day of School!"

On Wednesday, February 7th, 2001, we celebrated the 100th day of classes this school year, at Ben Calf Robe School. Everyone had a great time celebrating together, with the day and its many special activities.

The students (K-Gr.6) were divided onto 8 teams, with the Grade 5/6 students acting as leaders for each team. During the day, each team had a chance to visit each station, set up around the school. The stations were:

- 100 Fruit Loops necklaces
- 100 toothpicks pictures
- 100 (popped) popcorn kernel pictures
- 100 rice grain Maracas
- 100 soap bubble blowing
- 100 gym games
- 100 jujubes guessing
- 100 bubble gum bubbles
- 100-day glasses
(The class wrote the BEGINNING of this story together)

The person running the '100 Fruit Loops necklaces' was Ms Bonnani. What we had to do at this station was to get a piece of yarn and count out 100 Fruit Loops. We had to put the Fruit Loops on the yarn to make a '100 Fruit Loops necklace'. Ms Bonnani also had 2 bottles taped together with water and blue food coloring inside. When you spin the bottle around, it made a whirlpool inside. It was cool! People liked this station because you got to eat the Fruit Loops.
(Byron and Samantha wrote this paragraph)

When we went to Miss Vest's classroom, we had to count one hundred toothpicks. Then we put them on the pink paper, to make a picture. We used glue to stick the toothpicks on the pictures. It was fun and the pictures were neat! Lots of people made tipis, houses, buildings, cottages and trees, in their pictures.

When we went to Miss Irlbacher's classroom, we made Maracas out of lemon bottles and rice. We had to count the rice to one hundred, then we had to put the rice in the funnel, then the rice went into the lemon bottle. Some of us put too much, so we had to take some out. The Maracas sounded loud!
(These paragraphs were written by Chaselyne, Jubillee and Kara)

The '100 popcorn picture' station was in Mrs. Stagliano's classroom downstairs. We had to use 100 popcorn to make a picture. We used glue to glue the popcorn onto the paper. When we were done, we got a puppet stamp. People did not eat the popcorn very much because there could be glue on it. We had to put our pictures outside in the hallway to dry. This station ran out of popcorn by the time the last group came to do their pictures.

The '100 jujubes guessing' station was in Mrs. Monteith's classroom. At this station, we had to make a guess which jar had 100 jujubes in it. There were 3 jars; one was pink, one was purple, and one was red. The red jar was the winner. The team that guessed it right the most, won all the jujubes to share and eat. We also got a snack of cookies and got to watch a video, at this station. In the morning Mrs Korbisser was at this station. In the afternoon, Miss Pistawka was at this station. Mrs. Monteith took a half hour turn at all the stations, so the other teachers could get a break.
(These paragraphs were written by AJ, Chantel H. and Chelsea)

At the Kindergarten classroom, we had to blow 100 soap bubbles, using a pipe cleaner and purple soap and red soap. Miss Fehr was at this station because Mrs. Garcia was away this day at an important meeting. After we blew our purple and red bubbles, we had to sign our names on a huge piece of paper. Everyone got to play with the toys in the room and then it was time to go to the next station.

When we went to the gym, there were things we had to do 100 times (because it was 100th day). Mr. Engel did the games with us. Most of the people did 100 skipping jumps. We also had to hoola hoop 100 times, bounce the basketball 100 times, shoot 100 baskets, or bat the birdie with a badminton racket to another person 100 times back-and-forth. Every team had fun at this station.
(These paragraphs were written by Desiree, Jared and Shantell)

At Miss Plouffe's classroom, there were two activities. When we got there, we grabbed a piece of paper that had a 100-day sign on it. People could use markers and crayons to colour and decorate the sign. When we were done we had to cut the sign out. Then we stapled or taped it and our glasses were done. Some people really liked the cool glasses, but some glasses broke, like Ryan's.

After we were done our glasses, we got a piece of bubble gum. We had to chew 100 times and blow big bubbles with the bubble gum. We got extra gums if we could blow really big bubbles. Naomi was blowing big bubbles, so she got five gums! Tiffany got lots of gums for blowing lots of big bubbles too! 100 bubble gum bubbles were cool!
(Chantele B., Kecia, Naomi, and Ryan wrote these paragraphs)

After the groups of students wrote the MIDDLE of this story, they were EACH assigned to write their own ENDING to the '100th Day' story. The following are those different endings...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Annie ...was away from school that day
A.J.'s ...
I liked the Fruit Loops station. I really liked the soap bubble blowing because that's where I blew the 100th bubble. I also liked the gym where I got to play basketball.
I didn't like the popcorn station because I didn't get to eat the popcorn.
At our classroom, we made a guess for a draw. It was fun!
I think 100th day was fun for the kids and the school.
Byron's ...
My favorite station was the Fruit Loops necklaces because you got to eat them.
My not so favorite station was the toothpicks picture because I got a lot of glue all over my hands.
This was the best 100th day of school, in my life.
Chantele B's ...
My favorite station was the gym. In the gym we were playing games with basketballs, skipping ropes and badminton with Jubillee, Tristan and myself.
My not favorite station was the 'jujubes guessing' because it wasn't fun.
I liked 100th day. It was fun. It was like a 'party-day'.
I am happy, Darren is happy, my mom and dad are happy, we're all HAPPY. I love you guys!
Chantel's ...
I did not come to school on 100th day because I went to my Grandma's instead. I did not see her in a long time. When I got there she was so happy. When I left, she started to cry.
Even though the class had a lot of fun, I am happy I got the chance to make my Grandma happy on the 100th day of school this year.
Chaselyne's ...
The station I didn't like was the Maracas, because it was hard and we didn't get to take our Maracas right away. The guessing contest, the soap bubbles, and the popcorn pictures were boring and I don't like the stick pictures because it was boring too.
The most fun was the movie because it was a funny movie. I liked the gym games because it was very fun! I also liked the bubble gum blowing and making the glasses.
We were so excited on '100th day', that we were running in the hallways from station to station! This was one of the funnest days of my life!
Chelsea's ...
My favorite station was the games because we had to do everything 100 times. I really liked the jump-roping!
The station I did not like was the soap bubble blowing because I got wet. It was so embarrassing. After I was done I looked at the books.
When I went back to class after all the stations were done, we watched a movie (Stickin' Round) and then we went home.
100th day was so fun!
Danielle's ...
The station I liked was the Fruit Loop necklaces with Ms Bonnani. It was my favorite because you got to eat it, and she gave us candy.
I hated the Maracas because I was late (and I didn't have enough time to make one). Miss Irlbacher gave me a candy anyways. I like her.
100th day was the best because we didn't get to do work all day. All the stations were great, except the Maracas.
Desiree's ...
My favorite station was when I went to the Fruit Loops necklaces. I liked that one because after we made them, we got to eat them!
The station I didn't really like was in Mrs. Stagliano's room. I would have liked it if I had popcorn, but I got there late and I didn't make a popcorn picture. That's why I didn't like the station.
100th day is really fun!!! I like this school. It is really cool and it is the best. They do a lot of fun things at this school because it is fun!!! On 100th day I liked the stations. It was fun!!!
Frankie's ...
My favorite station was the popcorn pictures because I ate the popcorn.
My not-so-favorite station was the Maracas because you had to count rice.
100th day was cool because I liked going to the stations all around our school.
Jared's ...
My favorite station was the games because you can play basketball and badminton in the gym.
My not favorite station was skipping, because it was hard for me.
My little bit favorite station was doing the hoola-hoop.
Jubillee's ...
My favorite station was the toothpick pictures. I liked doing the toothpick pictures because we got to pick a paper. The colours were green, purple and blue.
My not-so-favorite station was the popcorn pictures, because the popcorn always fell off.
Ben Calf Robe School's 100th day was the best! Ben Calf Robe School is the best! Mrs. Monteith is the best teacher!
Kara's ...
My favorite station was Mr. Engel's because we had to skip 100 times. I didn t really skip 100 times, but I did bounce a basketball 100 times.
The station I did not like was Miss Irlbacher's because we had to wait for 2 days for the Maracas, and we still didn't get to have them, yet. We had to count 100 pieces of rice, then put them into a lemon bottle that really was stinky (like lemons from a week ago).
The station I liked was the Fruit Loop necklaces. We had to count 100 Fruit Loops and the best thing about that, was that we got to eat the Fruit Loops at recess.
The station I didn't like was Miss Vest's station. We got to make our toothpicks pictures for only 5 minutes, and I didn't get to finish mine. It was boring.
100th day at Ben Calf Robe was a day I'll never forget for a long time!
Kecia's ...
My favorite station was the 'Fruit Loops necklace'. The necklaces were very fun because it's easy to make them, plus we get sweet treats for being quiet.
'100 toothpicks pictures' were cool. You get to make anything out of 100 toothpicks. Miss Vest was working in this station by herself.
'100 rice Maracas' were okay, except I didn't get to make one because I was late. Miss Irlbacher is a nice teacher.
'100 popcorn pictures' were very good. We made them by counting popcorn to 100, then make a picture from your own mind. Mrs.Stagliano was working with Helen at this station.
'100-day glasses' were funny. We had markers on the desk and we coloured the glasses. Then we cut them out and stapled them together. After our group were done, we went to the next station.
'100 bubbles' station was where we had to blow 100 bubbles of soap. Then we had to write our name in a bubble and colour it. Miss Fehr was doing the bubbles. It was good.
'100 bubble gum bubble blowing' was very delicious because you have to blow lots of big bubbles 100 times. It was very fun. Miss Plouffe was working there at her station.
In the gym there were jump-roping, basketball shooting, and badminton.We had to do it 100 times. Mr. Engel was doing his job in there!
In Mrs. Monteith's room, there were cookies, a movie and a guessing game of how many jujubes there were in the red, pink and purple jars. I picked red, but my group did not win.
The station I didn't really enjoy was the gym because I couldn't jump rope.
This was the most fun day! I do not think other schools have a '100th day' like us. I think my school only has it. What a yummy and special day!
Naomi's ...
The most favorite station for me was the 'Fruit Loop necklaces' because you get to use Fruit Loops.
The station I did not like was the popcorn pictures because you have to use glue on popcorn. I mostly hate popcorn.
That was the funnest 100th day ever because I did not have any trouble at all and I like this school. It is cool.
Raven's ...
My favorite station was the Maracas. Our teacher said we could play them for Music.
Another station I liked was the Fruit Loop necklaces. I think Ms Bonanni is the most nicest teacher, but not as nice as Mrs. Monteith.
The station I did not like was the toothpick pictures because it was too hard. We had to count the toothpicks to a 100th.
After we ate lunch and went outside, we went inside and continued in our groups, for the afternoon. 100th day took the whole day long to do!
Ryan's ...
My favorite station was blowing bubbles because they're nice and big! It was the most funnest part of the day, when I was in the Kindergarten room!
The station I didn't like was the popcorn station, because mine fell apart.
This was a disappointing day, because my 100th day glasses broke.
Samantha's ...
My favorite station was the toothpick picture. It is so cool because you get to use toothpicks to make something that looks nice.
The station I did not like was the popcorn station because I did not like making things with popcorn.
This was the best 100th day ever!
Shantell's ...
My team was the color BROWN team. My Captains were Owen and Gage. My group was fun. Owen told us where we had to go. Before we went for recess, Owen said to go to the lunchroom station after recess. So after recess we all left our Captains and went to the lunchroom. Our group worked hard to be a team.
My favorite station was the '100 Fruit Loops necklace' because we got to eat!
The station I didn't like was the rice and lemon Maracas because the rice smelled gross.
I had a cool time on 100th day at our school!
Mrs. Monteith's ...
I was lucky enough to be chosen the teacher who got to help out and visit, each station. That meant each teacher got a break to 'recharge themselves'. I really enjoyed every station, and got the chance to do all the different crafts and activities, with all the elementary students of our school.
If I had to choose, I'd have to say that my favorite station was the games in the gym. I skipped 33 times in a row (and I have not skipped like that for years!) with 2 students turning the long skipping rope!!! I jumped in holding a basketball and finally had to let the ball go around skip 24, because it was weighing me down! (ha ha ha!) I also got to hit the badminton birdie with girls who are in my Grade 3 class. It was a lot of fun!
If I had to choose, I'd have to say that my least favorite station was the popcorn station because the kids who were there when I was there (near the end of the day), did not have enough popcorn to make the kind of pictures they wanted to make. I felt sorry that they had to use the crumbs to make their pictures with. Oh well...nothing is perfect! I'm sure we'll buy more popcorn next time!
'100th day' at Ben Calf Robe School is always a special event. Miss Plouffe organizes this great learning day for all of us, and we all remember it for many days to come. Learning can be and IS...FUN! I can hardly wait until next year...for the next 100th day at BCR!
