Here are a list of possible activities you may wish to do with your child, during your visit:

CLASSROOM CREED and RULES -

....Have your child TELL YOU our CLASS CREED and CLASS RULES.

....Have your child TELL YOU who all the members of our classroom family are.

....Have your child TELL YOU why he/she is thankful to be a member of our 3M Family.


DAILY ROUTINES -

....Have your child TELL YOU the various activities/routines/procedures we do each day...and have them DEMONSTRATE or SHOW YOU one of the following:

....AGENDA and HOMEWORK (in am.)
....PRAYERS (morning, lunch, end of day)
....DRUM Song
....BRAIN Gym
....Calendar/Journal/Grammar Books
....O CANADA (sung)
....AGENDA and HOMEWORK (in p.m.)


LANGUAGE LEARNING -

....Have your child TELL YOU the wide variety of Language Arts (Spelling, Reading, Writing, Listening) activities we have done this year, and have them do one of the following for you:

....SPELLING -
EXPLAIN the routine for the work we do in Spelling, each day in the week.

....READING -
SHOW YOU the variety of learning books and ask them to TELL YOU what each kind of learning book helps know how to do.

***You can ask your child to READ to you, while you watch them/listen for reading fluency/accuracy.

....WRITING -
SHOW YOU works from their 'BEST WORK' file (which includes creative writing samples) and view their CURSIVE WRITING booklet.

**** You can ask your child to do some CURSIVE/CREATIVE writing for you, while you watch them for ease of writing ability.

....LISTENING -
Have your child do the 'Listening Test' provided.
****YOU give them the instructions...with NO REPEATING of those instructions.

****You may also VIEW your child's various FILES in this area of study.

....LIBRARY-
Have your child TELL YOU the procedures for going to the LIBRARY.
Ask who 'Sharon' is... and what she does for our school.


MATHEMATICS LEARNING

....Have your child SHOW YOU the wide variety of Mathematic concepts that have been covered this year in Math (see Math area and/or MATH FILES).

....Have your child DEMONSTRATE this learning, by completing one of the activities provided or VIEW your child's FILE.


SOCIAL STUDIES/NATIVE STUDIES -

....Have your child TELL YOU the UNITS of study, we have covered this year.

....Have your child TELL YOU some of the THEMES we have studied about the NATIVE CULTURE.
Ask them which theme they have liked the best so far.

....DO one of the activities provided or VIEW your child's FILE.


SCIENCE -

....Have your child TELL YOU the UNITS of study, we have covered this year.

....Have your child EXPLAIN one of the experiments the class has done...and what was learned from it.

....DO one of the activities provided or VIEW your child's FILE.


RELIGION-

....Ask your child to tell you one of the following:

- PRAYERS and/or prayer routines we do.

- Liturgical CELEBRATIONS we have learned
about/participated in.

- Meaning of religious SYMBOLS:
candle,cross,rosary,bible,water,rock,salt
- significance of religious FIGURES (God, Jesus, Mary, Holy Spirit, Saints...)

- LENTEN activities

- NATIVE symbol CONNECTIONS to Catholic faith practices


CHRISTIAN FAMILY LIFE -

....Have your child TELL YOU the UNITS of study, we have covered this year.

....Have your child tell you what they have learned about:

- Healthy ME ...Food Groups
- Healthy Dental habits
- Healthy 'Safety tips' (hand-washing, fire, strangers)
- Healthy Relationships (positive behavior)

....DO one of the activities provided or VIEW your child's FILE.


FINE ARTS - (Music, Art)

....Have your child TELL YOU the variety of learning activities we have done in these subjects.

- Ask your child to SHOW YOU samples of their ARTWORK.

- Ask your child to TELL YOU the MUSICAL SCALE and SING/PLAY it.

....DO one of the activities provided or VIEW your child's FILE.


CREE - (Miss Anderson)

....Ask your child to TELL YOU or DEMONSTRATE what your child has learned in CREE language learning, this year.

....Ask your child to speak/tell you some vocabulary covered in class.

....VIEW your child's CREE FILE and/or do one of the activities provided.


COMPUTERS - (Miss Anderson)

....Ask your child what he/she has learned about COMPUTERS and have your child take you to our school website...to view the GRADE 3 webpages (section).

***LOOK for your child's work there!


PHYSICAL EDUCATION - (Mr. Bain)

....Have your child TELL YOU the kinds of activities he/she has done this year.

....Have your child explain what FAIR PLAY is and why it is important.


BEFORE YOU GO...

....CHECK with Mrs.Monteith... on whether or not there is IMPORTANT INFORMATION to discuss together....

....MEET the other people working with your child and our classroom.

....LOOK at classroom displays and other displays in the school relating/created by our class....

....LOOK inside your child's desk/mailbox...

....LEAVE your child's signed Report Card... with Mrs.Monteith...

....FILL-OUT the DEMONSTRATION of LEARNING EVALUATION FORM....

....LET YOUR CHILD show you anything else he/she wants you to see/hear/do...
