ABC Behaviour Chart


CODE A:

99% of the time...the TEACHER deals with the following problems:

- Late to class
- Not prepared for class
- Homework incomplete or missing
- Off-task behavior (non-participation, socializing, lack of motivation, not focused/attentive, note passing)
- Disruptive behavior (call-outs, disrupting others, goofing off)
- Inappropriate loitering or blocking movement
- Littering
- Hats/headgear/jackets/boots in classroom
- Food or drink in improper areas
- Skateboards, walkmans, gameboys or other disallowed items in classrooms.




CODE B:

This involves TEACHER dealing with the problem FIRST, then calling in ADMINISTRATION as necessary. Behaviours in this category are:

- Disrespectful/defiant/uncooperative behaviour
- Inappropriate language (swearing, putdowns)
- Rough housing (wrestling/rough play)
- Student out of class/area without permission
- Improper dress
- Inexcusable absense




CODE C:

ADMINISTRATION deals with the problem. Behaviours in this category are:

- Non-compliance to school policies.
- Defiance (absolute refusal to comply with a reasonable request)
- Bullying - Verbal Abuse (threats,homophobia, racial slurs and other "isms")
- Bullying - Physical Abuse (pushing, hitting, tripping, chasing, ANY inappropriate touch)
- Bullying - Social Abuse (rumours, gossip, exclusion, nasty notes)
- Theft
- Vandalism
- Fighting
- Substance Abuse (smoking, drugs, alcohol)
- Leaving school property without permission

Step 1:
- Remind student of behaviour expectation(s).
- Document if necessary


Step 2:
- Restitution by the student (TIME OUT, Buddy Room, Detention)
- Documentation


Step 3:
- Restitution by student and home contact by staff
- Documentation and home contact


Step 4:
* MOVE DIRECTLY to CODE B - STEP 2





CODE B:

Step 1:
- Restitution by student, documentation and home contact by staff member


Step 2:
- Referral to Administration and home contact by staff member
- Referral to School Based Team (invite parent or guardian to meeting)


Step 3:
- Referral to Administration by staff member/home contact by Administration
- One to four day suspension (in or out of school depending on circumstances)
- Parent conference with Administration, School Based Team member(s), and involved staff, before student returns to classes.


Step 4:
* MOVE DIRECTLY to CODE C - Step 2





CODE C:

Step 1:
- Referral to Administration/documentation by staff
- Student/Administration/staff member conference if required
- One to four day suspension (in or out of school depending on circumstances)
- Parent conferece with Administration before student returns to classes.


Step 2:
- One to four days OUT OF SCHOOL suspension
- Parent conference with administration before returns to classes.


Step 3:
- Consideration for alternate placement (EXPULSION)
